Just a little update

HURRAY, Brenda got home from the hospital on Dec 27th...still on oxygen though, but at least she's feeling better, well at least good enough to drive herself to the clinic now with oxygen tank in tow.(as long as someone goes with her to help with o2 tank) People at HR set up a fund raiser (Navajo Taco Sale & raffle) last weekend and made over $1,400 for Brenda. Someone who works at the clinic won 1 of Brenda's fairies and LOVED it, she is now gonna bug Brenda about making them to sell everytime she sees Brenda at the clinic. (which will be every week for awhile).

Brenda's roomie (Doris) is leaving for a couple months. Guess that can be good or bad, depending on how u want to look at it. Maybe I should be nice and go offer to help her pack...LOL

I'm still in the Brown Building..ordered some new exercise equipment that should be here later this week. (Body Flex Cardio Dual Trainer~elliptical machine & exercise bike-all in one) good thing I have my own room so whatever I buy won't get in anyone else's way. Yup, another reason for me to re-organize my room.
The rec center is starting up the "Biggest Loser~Grand Canyon style" again on Feb 1st. I will be on a different team this time. This time I need to get serious about it cuz I think I've gained all the weight back that I lost last time.

I'm still working at Maswik and will be there longer this year. I guess seeing as the world is feeling an economy crunch, people are not booking enough rooms at the canyon this winter so Yavapai won't be opening on time. First I heard that it would open in mid-March then the other day someone told me that Yavapai won't open until mid-April.
Last Wednesday I had to go to HR to take a random drug test...of course I passed it with no problems.
Actually I am ok with staying at Maswik is closer to where I live now and I am also enjoying the other cooks at Maswik and I also get to do more in Maswik kitchen then I could in Yavapai's kitchen. Even though I will miss the salad bar at Yavapai. This will give me more time to see if I want to stay at Maswik for good.

The burn on my leg is slowly healing~actually its itchy and annoying the heck outta me, but should be ok when once its all healed.

Well I have stuff to do before going into work at 2pm (today is my Monday). So whoever is reading this~~I hope you're having a great day.

Fund raiser for Brenda

Brenda finally came home on Dec 27th. She brought an oxygen tank home with her to help with breathing.

Some people at HR organized a fund-raiser to help her out...on Jan 10th, they had a Navajo taco sale and a raffle. Think they made about $1,500 ( or less).

Burns like Hell!

This morning I was making some new Thai Curry rice stuff in the microwave. After heating it up for the 8 minutes required, I went to take it out to stir it up, well I ended up dumping the stuff down my leg. OMG! talk about hot. Luckily I had some ice but eventually made my way down to Maswik to get some burn cream or something from their first aid kit.
Rebecca asked what happened and when I told her, she asked me if I wanted her to call someone to take me to the clinic. Seeing as I have no insurance I said, no. And then told her that I would see her later...seeing as I'm schedule to be at work at 3pm today.

Boy years ago when my son was about 3, he wanted to help by getting my cup of coffee out of the microwave when I was busy and wasn't looking at what he was doing. The coffee went down his chest. Luckily he was so young that he has no burn scar from it.
But man..this is the worst I have ever burned myself (enough to take some skin off, geez I would like to take some fat off my leg but guess I should leave the rest of the skin on)

hey it's 2009

ok, maybe I'm a little behind for this blog. No wonder my ex-husband used to say "I lived in the land of later". Figured I would do whatever it was that I said I would do...but when I say I'll do it later...well later could be today or next week or next year. Maybe that's something I should try and change for 2009.
I would probably keep that resolution about as long as any other....oh maybe 2 weeks at most.

Now how did making resolutions become such a big deal anyways?
(I found this online)
ANCIENT NEW YEARS
The celebration of the new year is the oldest of all holidays
. It was first observed in ancient Babylon about 4000 years ago. In the years around 2000 BC, the Babylonian New Year began with the first New Moon (actually the first visible cresent) after the Vernal Equinox (first day of spring).
**my question** If it happened 2000BC....how did anyone know that 2000 years from then that christ would be born and the years would change from BC to AD? Did they have fortune tellers at that time?

The Romans continued to observe the new year in late March, but their calendar was continually tampered with by various emperors so that the calendar soon became out of synchronization with the sun.
In order to set the calendar right, the Roman senate, in 153 BC, declared January 1 to be the beginning of the new year. But tampering continued until Julius Caesar, in 46 BC, established what has come to be known as the Julian Calendar. It again established January 1 as the new year. But in order to synchronize the calendar with the sun, Caesar had to let the previous year drag on for 445 days.

It always boggled my mind that Jewish people had their on New Year....also known as Yom Kippur (or however u spell it) in the Fall, and the Chinese New year is usually late Jan-early Feb (Jan 29th this year) and few other groups have different dates to celebrate for new years. From looking through history seems like nobody can agree on the calender.

Well this year, I worked the morning of New Years Eve. A small Japenese tour group came in and the driver taught us to say Happy New Year in Japanese.

* itchy, knee, sun, she,go* now say those 5 words all together as if they were 1 word...and thats how u say happy new year in Japanese.

For New Years Eve, Jack & I went to the bar at Maswik. I only had 1 screwdriver and 1/2 a beer...couldn't drink anymore cuz I was to busy taking pictures of everyone.
New Years Day, Jack & I went to visit Brenda and play cards. I joked how it must be the new tradition because last year I played cards with Brenda & Susan.
